A project that feels like science fiction is becoming reality: This is the Qiddiya Speed Park Track, located just about 30 miles outside Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
Together with our friend and partner, former Formula 1 driver Alex Wurz, we were commissioned to integrate an FIA Grade 1 / FIM Grade A racing circuit into the currently developing mega-project Qiddiya City. This project is reaching for superlatives: The world’s largest grandstand is set to accommodate the massive interest from spectators and media, while “The Blade,” possibly the most spectacular racetrack element ever, takes center stage. The LED-lit braking zone rises over 70 meters, contributing to the track’s total of 108 meters of elevation changes. Surrounding the track, additional observation terraces will provide a panoramic view of the race action and the glowing surroundings of Qiddiya City — rollercoaster included.
With 21 corners, a counterclockwise layout, and top speeds of up to 320 km/h (200 mph), the street circuit will push drivers to their limits during nighttime races in the dark. The total distance will surpass the current longest F1 track in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, making the Speed Park Track the longest F1 circuit.
The opening and F1 premiere of the Qiddiya Speed Park Track are planned for 2028. Until then, our lightning-fast street circuit in Jeddah Corniche will continue to host the annual Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, as it did since its completion in 2021.
