The football stadium, being heart of the upcoming new Bahrain International Sports City, represents a state-of-the-art sports facility merging contemporary and traditional architectural elements.
The multi-functional stadium with approximately 50,000 spectator seats meets the latest FIFA requirements and offers a unique and exciting venue for national and international soccer events as well as the option for various other major events such as concerts, exhibitions and much more.
The stadium is located in the immediate neighborhood of the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), the famous Formula 1 Grand Prix race track. It rises from an oval base over a wide, surrounding plaza. This plaza, with its high end appearance, serves as circulation area for stadium spectators and at the same time as the entrance and exit level of the adjacent Indoor Sports Complex and a planned hotel which will cater for visitors of the sports City as well as for the New Exhibition and Congress Centre in the future.
The internal organization of the stadium follows a functional structure that allows a user friendly placement of all required functions (catering, museum, merchandising, etc.) around a wide concourse area.
The lower and upper spectator tiers have a capacity of approximately 47.000 seats. A ring of high-quality hospitality areas is located in between those tiers. It has a capacity of around 3,000 seats for VIP guests. The area is divided into a Business Club, VVIP Sky Boxes and a Royal Lounge.
To host a major event, the majority of all required functional rooms as well as the players’ and the officials areas are located in the basement on the west side of the building.
The design concept of the stadium’s façade follows a contemporary interpretation of traditional “mashrabiya” motifs, which give the stadium a unique, spectacular and filigree appearance. The ornamental façade ends at first floor level in a wave-shaped, golden-colored seam stretching up to the concourse level of the VIP area and opening to the stadium entrances at ground floor level.
