Opened in March 1999, the Sepang International Circuit is located near Sepang in Selangor, close to Kuala Lumpur International Airport. From a Tilke perspective, the project demonstrates how a major motorsport venue can combine a clear architectural identity with an efficient and accessible site concept.
The 5.543-kilometre track includes 15 turns and eight straights. Its layout combines sharp corners with fast sections, creating a varied challenge for drivers and riders. In addition, the circuit’s hot and humid conditions place specific demands on vehicle performance, driver comfort, and event operations.
Furthermore, the circuit features an elevation change of approximately 18 metres. The clockwise layout includes low-, medium-, and high-speed corners. This combination requires a balanced approach to braking, traction, lateral load, and downforce, while giving the lap a distinct rhythm and technical character.
The track geometry also supports a broad range of international uses. Long straights create opportunities for overtaking and high-speed performance, while the technical sections test precision and consistency. As a result, the circuit can accommodate both two-wheel and four-wheel motorsport at a high level.
The circuit has hosted major events including Formula 1 until 2017, MotoGP, endurance racing, and Super GT. Beyond racing, the venue also provides facilities for driving experiences and other motorsport activities.
