Miami International Autodrome

Completed in 2022, the Miami International Autodrome is a temporary Formula 1 circuit that winds around the iconic Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. In 2023, Tilke has been commissioned to undertake a comprehensive resurfacing and to implement some modifications.

The primary objective was to resurface the entire track and eliminate bumps and uneven areas. For this purpose, a special asphalt mixture was developed, optimized for the local conditions, and designed to produce a perfectly even surface. The existing asphalt was milled off, and the new asphalt was applied throughout the circuit. Logistically and operationally, this was an exceptionally complex undertaking, as the work could only be carried out at night while NFL games were held at the stadium, and preparations for the Miami Open tournament were simultaneously in progress.

Furthermore, some run-off areas were adjusted to bring fans closer to the track while ensuring drivers felt safer. Additionally, the section of the track around the chicane was redesigned to create a slightly smoother flow. The track was widened by up to three meters to facilitate higher speeds.

Together with all stakeholders, we managed to finish all upgrades just in time for the 2023 Miami Open and the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix.
