The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is one of the classics of European motorsports and has established itself over the years as a popular and busy race track.

The mild climate in winter allows smaller events to be organized around the year. Formula 1 also takes advantage of these excellent conditions to run initial tests on new race cars. Highlights of the season, of course, are the weekends when Formula 1 and MotoGP race on the track.

The circuit offers a mixture of fast and slow turns, a 1047m start and finish straight and a variety of elevation changes. Three of the 16 corners are high-speed corners, where the tires are exposed to extreme stress.

We have been involved in the maintenance and improvement of the racetrack since 2002. The focus was on modernizing the track, including a new driving challenge, and building a new main grandstand for 9,580 spectators.

Smaller maintenance works followed until 2007 when we were commissioned to make a major change.

For safety reasons, the track layout for Formula 1 had to be changed in turn 13 and replaced by a chicane in 2007. The track layout for MotoGP was not affected by this.

As the speed of the MotoGP increased, the Europecar curve had to be temporarily defused for motorcycles as well. This created a second chicane for the MotoGP for a short time.

Generous extensions to the run-off zones ensured the safety of motorcyclists and a return to the original track layout.

In 2018, Tilke GmbH & Co. KG was commissioned to resurface the track to improve the grip of the surface. Previously, the track had been resurfaced in 2004.

At the end of January 2021, we played a leading role in another change to turn 10. The track layout was changed at this point to extend the run-off zone and to meet modern safety standards. This brings the turn back to its original shape, a long left-hand turn.
